Olivia Steele

Born in 1985 in the USA, Contemporary light artist Olivia Steele is renowned for her evocative neon installations, blending symbolic phrasing with surreal environments. Handcrafted and gas-filled, her neon works transform spaces worldwide, from Berlin to Beirut and Miami to Mumbai, into reflective and provocative experiences.

Steele’s art, a blend of wit and wisdom, includes site-specific land art, indoor displays, and unique interventions on found objects like vintage birdcages and gas tanks, creating a sought-after series of collectables.

Steele’s work juxtaposes humor and existential musings, harnessing neon’s traditional craft to comment on modernity’s contradictions. Her brief, impactful statements mirror the digital age’s ingenuity and introspection, often paired with evocative imagery or objects. Themes of consciousness and spirituality infuse her pieces, creating transformative, contemplative experiences.

"My art is not about what I see… It’s about what I invite you to see,” she explains. Her neon phrases, displayed on signs, landscapes, and even fire, bridge semiotics and spectacle, inspiring thought and connection. Steele currently lives and works in Berlin, Mexico City, and L.A.
